I think the hole is 9ft deep, so it's only 3ft to the top. However, you do need to dig your body out, and we're not talking about digging all the dirt around you. If you're quick, as the dirt goes in you can pile it up around you and climb out. Dirt falls at 9m/s^2 so you'd be out pretty quickly.

Or dead. In which case, you've saved yourself the cost of the grave, grave diggers, dirt and nice afternoon tea for the relatives. However, there may be a cost for the police to find and exhume your missing body which is paid for with taxes.

However, I'm in Australia and we use metric and minimum wage is about $17/hour.
